Sublime Systems Announces The First Ever Commercial Use Of Its Net Zero Cement

Petya Trendafilova - Carbon Herald

WS Development – a Massachusetts-based property developer and Sublime Systems – a truly net zero concrete producer, announced the first-ever commercial application of low-carbon Sublime Cement™ in the development of the indoor public space of One Boston Wharf – Boston’s largest net-zero-carbon office building in the Seaport district.

The building is 707,000 square feet and has 17 floors with ground floor retail and restaurants, as well as a 700-seat Seaport Performing Arts Center. It also hosts 630,000 square feet of office space. It is expected to be completed in 2024.

The Sublime Cement™ concrete placement will be located in One Boston Wharf Road’s primary public space, called the Paseo. The Paseo will lead pedestrians from the Fort Point Channel Landmark District to a new one-acre public space called The Rocks at Harbor Way. This new park will host public events and create a hub of community activities. The area built with Sublime Cement™ will have educational materials explaining the significance of decarbonized cement in reducing global emissions.

One Boston Wharf will be the largest net-zero-carbon office building in Boston. According to the announcement, it will reduce emissions by more than 90% below code requirements and eliminate 5.1 million pounds of CO2 (around 2550 tons of CO2) annually. WS Development has also purchased renewable electricity for all electric power serving its Seaport portfolio.
