Hot Property: Winter Sauna at Somernova

Banker & Tradesman

What: Winter Sauna and Cold Plunge Village
Where: 14 Tyler St., Somerville
Owner: Rafi Properties
Built: 2024-2025

As the thermometer dips, Moki Sauna is heating up (and chilling down) the Somernova campus with a slice of Nordic culture.

Now open in a courtyard outside Aeronaut Brewing Co., its winter sauna and cold plunge village includes wood-fired saunas, cold-plunge cedar barrels, three shower stalls and a heated lounge with lockers.

Moki’s first location opened as a pop-up last winter on Boston’s Rose Kennedy Greenway. CultureHouse, a Union Square nonprofit that acts as matchmaker between property owners and pop-up operators, referred Moki Sauna founder Mark Peloquin to Somernova owner Rafi Properties. Peloquin said his company is now looking for its first permanent location, seeking properties with density and foot traffic for an opening in early spring.

Visitors can book one- or two-hour sessions for $45 and $60 respectively from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

They Said It:

“Whether you are new to the process or have done something similar before, we see our Somernova location as a place to connect with yourself and others. We’re proud to bring this to the Somerville community and fortunate to have found a partner like Somernova that shares our vision and values.”
— Mark Peloquin, CEO, Moki Sauna
