Carbon To Value Initiative Kickstarts Year 4 Of Carbontech Accelerator Program (ft. Greentown Labs)

Theodora Stankova

The Carbon to Value Initiative (C2V Initiative) has announced the launch of the fourth year of its carbontech accelerator program, inviting innovative startups to apply.

Spearheaded by the Urban Future Lab at NYU Tandon School of Engineering (UFL), Greentown Labs, and Fraunhofer USA, this initiative aims to cultivate an ecosystem for carbontech innovation, focusing on technologies that convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into valuable products or services.

Startups at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4-7 can apply, particularly those developing solutions in categories such as carbon conversion to added-value products, carbon capture, and carbon sequestration and removal.

These categories, however, are not exhaustive and they may overlap so startups with other innovative carbontech solutions are also encouraged to apply, the C2V Initiative noted.

The program offers access to the Carbontech Leadership Council (CLC), comprising influential leaders from corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors, facilitating commercialization opportunities and tailored mentorship.

Selected startups will receive a $10,000 stipend and will have the opportunity to work closely with the CLC and the C2V Initiative team over six months to advance their commercialization efforts.

Year 4 of the initiative welcomes esteemed new CLC members, including representatives from CO₂Value Europe, Energy Impact Partners, Evonik, Shell, and Veolia, who join existing top-tier companies like BASF and Carbon180.

Since its inception, the C2V Initiative has supported 26 startups, raising over $410 million in funding and fostering numerous partnerships and business relationships.

The success of the program underscores the critical role of carbontech in achieving net-zero climate goals and the necessity for collaboration between government, industry, and startups.

Applications for the fourth cohort are open until June 21, 2024.
