Announcing the Incoming CEO of Greentown Labs

Greentown Labs

Dear Friends of Greentown Labs,

We were fortunate to close out 2024 with a successful $4 million funding round, and that momentum is catapulting us into 2025! Today, our Board of Directors enthusiastically announced Georgina Campbell Flatter as Greentown’s incoming Chief Executive Officer.

You can learn more about today’s announcement here or via The Boston Globe here.

Georgina brings an exceptional blend of nonprofit executive leadership, entrepreneurial experience in the climate and energy industries dating back to Greentown’s inception, and a strong technical background. She has a proven track record of developing and scaling impactful global programs at the intersection of climate and energy innovation, and entrepreneurship and social impact. Georgina will transition to Greentown from her role as Co-founder and Executive Director of TomorrowNow.org, a global nonprofit pioneering innovative approaches to connect next-generation weather and climate technologies with vulnerable communities on the frontlines of climate change.

In partnership with her fellow members of our Board of Directors, Georgina will set the vision for our next chapter of growth and impact. Bobby Tudor, Greentown’s Board Chair and Chairman of the Houston Energy Transition Initiative, recently shared, “It’s rare to find an individual who has impressive climate and energy expertise along with nonprofit and entrepreneurial leadership—we’re fortunate Georgie brings all of this and more to Greentown Labs. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am delighted to welcome Georgie as our next CEO and I am eager to see all that Greentown will accomplish under her leadership. Since Greentown’s expansion to Houston in 2021, we’ve seen the power of its role in our ecosystem and we’re proud to have Georgie leading Greentown’s next chapter.”

Prior to founding TomorrowNow.org, Georgina spent a decade at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she was a senior lecturer and led global initiatives at the intersection of technology and social impact. She spearheaded and influenced innovation programs for organizations such as the MIT Legatum Center, the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship, the MIT Climate & Energy Prize, MIT REAP, XPRIZE Foundation, the World Bank, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Her hands-on research experience includes work at the Langer Lab and Sun Catalytix, an MIT – ARPA-E funded spin-out, focused on energy-storage solutions inspired by natural photosynthesis.

Georgina is eager to dive into her new role—she shared recently, “We are at a transformational moment in the energy transition, with an unprecedented opportunity to drive solutions in energy production, sustainability, and climate resilience. Greentown Labs is, and has always been, a home for entrepreneurs and a powerhouse of collaboration and innovation. In this next chapter, I’m excited to build on our entrepreneurial roots and the strength of our ever-growing communities in Boston and Houston. Together, we will unite entrepreneurs, partners, and resources to tackle frontier challenges and scale breakthrough technologies.”

Flatter earned a Master of Engineering in Materials Science from the University of Oxford and an SM in Technology and Policy from MIT. A mother of three, she is passionate about making technology matter for prosperity and the planet, empowering entrepreneurs, and advancing public understanding of science.

We’re hosting our first EnergyBar evening networking event of 2025 at our Boston incubator this Thursday, Feb. 6, featuring a fireside chat with Georgina—we hope you can join us! And mark your calendars for a similar event format at our annual CERAWeek Transition On Tap at our Houston incubator on March 13.

We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kevin Dutt, who has brilliantly served as Greentown’s Interim CEO since last summer. He has been a phenomenal leader and we are so grateful for all he has done for Greentown!

Thank you for your continued support and belief in our community. We can’t wait to see all that we’ll accomplish together this year!

Yours in climate action,
The Greentown Labs team
